US cableco Verizon announced yesterday that it has filed an appeal against the FCC’s net neutrality rules in the US Court of Appeals for the District of Colombia.
Verizon’s senior vice president, Michael Glover, said in a statement that the company was committed to preserving an open internet.
But he added: “We are deeply concerned by the FCC’s assertion of broad authority for sweeping new regulation of broadband networks and the internet itself. We believe this assertion of authority goes well beyond any authority provided by Congress, and creates uncertainty for the communications industry, innovators, investors and consumers.”
A Verizon spokesman told TelecomFinance that there was no anticipated date for the case to start. “We expect this to be a long, drawn out process,” he said.
