UK mobile operator Vodafone is reportedly set to announce the appointment of Gerard Kleisterlee, CEO of Dutch electronics manufacturer Phillips, to replace Sir John Bond as chairman.
A source close to Vodafone told TelecomFinance last September that the group had selected headhunter MWM Consulting to search for Sir John’s replacement before its next AGM.
At the company’s AGM last July, some 6.53% of shareholders led by investor group Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan voted against Sir John’s re-election.
He has faced heavy criticism from some shareholders over Vodafone’s overseas minority investments, and its inability to secure a resumption in dividend payouts from US-based Verizon Wireless, a JV it shares with US telco Verizon Communications.
Vodafone declined to comment.
