The shareholders of Brazilian telco Oi have approved the company’s acquisition of Invitel, the holding company of Brasil Telecom.
The decision was taken in an extraordinary shareholders meeting held yesterday.
The minutes of the meeting, seen by TelecomFinance, state that the shareholders ratified the acquisition of Invitel, the holding company of Brasil Telecom.
Brazilian newspaper Folha also reported that Oi and Portuguese incumbent Portugal Telecom (PT) are close to arranging a deal for PT to acquire a 12% stake in Telemar, Oi’s holding company.
In addition, PT will reportedly buy a 35% stake in two private telcos that run Oi: Telecom AG and LF Tel.
Overall, this means that PT would have the equivalent of a 22.3% stake in Oi.
The deal will reportedly be completed next week.
Oi said that it would not comment on rumours, but that “as soon as we have anything defined we will inform the market”.
