The Zimbabwean finance ministry has provided US$6m to continue building a fibre-optic network linking major cities to Port Beira in Mozambique via the Zimbabwean border town of Mutare, Telegeography reports.
The project, which has suffered from insufficient financing, is part of a programme to upgrade and extend the backbone of Zimbabwean state-owned operator TelOne.
The government expects that all major cities in Zimbabwe will be linked by the end of this year.
