BT has announced that Mike Inglis will join its board as a non-executive director on 1 September.
Inglis has a technology background and is a non-executive director and chairman designate of battery firm Ilika, as well a non-executive director at set-top box maker Pace and an independent director at US semiconductor group Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
The British fixed-line incumbent said Inglis would join its technology committee, which it created earlier this year to improve its technology upgrade strategy.
It comes at a time when BT is poised to integrate its network with that of mobile operator EE, which BT agreed to buy in February. The company is awaiting approval from domestic regulator the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
“It’s a really exciting time and I believe BT has an important role to play in the industry’s continuing evolution,” Inglis said in a statement.
BT’s chairman, Michael Rake, commented: “[Mike] has a decade of board experience and brings with him in-depth experience of the technology industry. He will be a great asset for BT and its board.”
