Philippine incumbent PLDT has announced a series of appointments at group level effective 18 May, while also naming new executives to head up key business units.
Charles Lim will head the new Wireless Strategic Investments and Acquisition Group, focusing on potential global business ventures, expansions and partnerships.
Lim moves from his current position as executive vice president/head for individual wireless business, and is credited with having grown the individual postpaid, broadband and mobile internet businesses.
Winston Damarillo, meanwhile, becomes chief strategy officer of PLDT Group and president and CEO of Talas, the company’s big data unit. He will collaborate with the heads of PLDT’s enterprise and digital strategy groups. A technology entrepreneur, he has founded several companies in the ASEAN region and was most recently chairman and CEO of digital enterprise transformation company AGSX.
Anabelle Chua, current CFO of Smart, will become CFO of PLDT Group. She will maintain her current role as senior vice president for corporate finance at PLDT. She is described as a key member of the deals team responsible for M&A and other financial initiatives. She is also a board member at various PLDT companies, and is on the Philippine Stock Exchange board of directors.
Leo Posadas will become treasurer at PLDT Group, while staying on as head of the group’s treasury centre.
June Cheryl Cabal-Revilla becomes CFO of Smart and DMPI/Sun Cellular and PLDT group controller . She will remain head of financial reporting and controllership. In previous roles, she has been CFO of ePLDT, PLDT Global, Cignal TV and other fixed-line telco related subsidiaries.
Finally, Orlando B Vea is to become president and CEO of Voyager Innovations, the umbrella group for the company’s digital businesses and, as of now, its media resources including Mediaquest, TV5 and Cignal TV.
In related news, the company announced in late April a US$15m investment in flix, which aims to become “Southeast Asia’s leading internet TV service”. PLDT said this was in line with its strategy to develop new digital revenue streams.
