The CEO of Australian fibre optic network operator Nextgen, Peter McGrath, has left the company after seven years in the role.
Graeme Barclay, who has been an independent director of Nextgen since May 2014, has stepped in as interim CEO and chairman, the company said in a statement.
Nextgen noted that McGrath led the organisation through an extended period of corporate growth, which included Canada’s Ontario Teachers Pension Plan entering as its major shareholder. In March 2013 the pension fund agreed to pay A$620m (US$647m) for a 70% stake in Nextgen, data centre provider Metronode, and cloud computing service provider Infloplex. The investor acquired the assets from Australian construction firm Leighton Holdings.
Nextgen provides network connectivity, data centre facilities and cloud services for Australian businesses, government agencies and telecoms services providers. It claims to own one of Australia’s largest fibre optic networks, spanning more than 16,000km.
