Zain has appointed Wassim Mansour as general manager of Lebanon’s government-owned mobile operator Touch.
Kuwaiti telco Zain has had a management contract with the Lebanese authorities to operate Touch since 2004 and makes the executive changes.
Mansour takes the position following 18 months when he was chief adviser to Zain’s CEO Scott Gegenheimer and temporarily served as head of Zain South Sudan.
He replaces Claude Bassil, who will leave Beirut for a senior management role at Zain’s HQ in Kuwait City.
Mansour will work closely with Lebanon’s telecom ministry as part of the public-private partnership.
Touch has 53% market share in the Lebanon where it serves over two million customers. It has begun offering 4G services in parts of the country.
In addition to the management contract with Touch, Zain operates its own subsidiaries in Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and South Sudan.
