Zain’s CEO Nabeel Bin Salamah plans to step down in February 2013.
A spokesperson from the Kuwait-headquartered telco group confirmed that Bin Salamah will be leaving at the end of his contract, but would not give any reasons for his departure, nor reveal who his replacement will be.
Bin Salamah was appointed CEO in February 2010, having worked in the public sector for many years. In 2009 he served as Kuwait’s Minister of Communication, Electricity and Water.
TelecomFinance reported last month that Zain had significantly changed its management structure, creating the roles of deputy CEO and chief operating officer, in response to increasingly challenging and competitive market conditions.
“The proactive steps that we are taking are set to help reinforce the group’s competencies in the face of intensifying challenges it faces in the highly-competitive markets in which we operate,” said Bin Salamah at the time.
