UK IPTV venture YouView has confirmed its consumer launch has been delayed until 2012, following reports of technical issues and infighting between its partners.
YouView, a JV of partners including telcos BT and Talk Talk, had previously announced plans to launch in the first half of 2011.
However, the “scale and complexity of this project” has forced the venture to extend its roll out deadline, said CEO Richard Halton.
In a statement released to media outlets today, Halton said: “Our focus has always been to deliver a product to consumers that is right, but not rushed. Creating a truly open TV platform that will bring consumers increased choice has required significant technological innovation.”
The group will conduct product trials by the end of 2011 with a plan to launch consumer services early next year.
Citing an unnamed senior executive of one of the project’s partners last month, the Daily Telegraph reported that the set top boxes are besieged with technical issues that cause it to keep crashing.
YouView was unable to comment before the press deadline.
