The chief operating officer (COO) of US-based Windstream, Brent Whittington, will step down from his position on 1 September, according to a company statement.
The ISP and telco said the role will be scrapped following Whittington’s departure.
The COO duties will be split between Mark Faris, executive vice president of operations, and Randy Nicklas, executive vice president of engineering and chief technology officer. They will both report to CEO Jeff Gardner.
Whittington became COO in 2009. Before that, he had served as CFO from 2005.
Separately, Windstream recently announced plans to spin off a significant amount of its network assets into a publicly-traded real estate investment trust (REIT) in the first quarter of next year. Windstream expects the separation to cut its debt by US$3.2bn.
CFO Tony Thomas will become CEO of the REIT but will remain in his current position until a successor is found.
