US-based government-focussed communications solutions provider Windmill International has spun out its tactical satellite communications business into two wholly owned subsidiaries, AQYR Technologies and AQYR International.
Based in New Hampshire, the new entities formerly conducted business as Windmill Tactical SATCOM Systems.
The unit was formed in 2001 with funding from the Air Force Research Laboratory’s small business initiative research (SBIR) contract. With that investment it has developed a suite of satellite communications receive suite products for warfighters, including a suitcase size satcoms product and a 2-way Ku-band communications terminal.
By spinning out the business, Windmill stated that it intends to leverage the satcoms technology that it has developed for the US military with the release of new products for the commercial and enterprise markets. IN particular, AQYR will develop and manufacture a series of auto-acquisition VSAT products.
Windmill’s CEO Harry Pape, who will head AQYR’s Board, commented: “The formation of AQYR accelerates Windmill’s ability to grow in new business sectors; allowing the company to bring rapid, next-generation communications capability to fulfil the key communication needs of Homeland Defense, First Responders and Humanitarian Relief agencies globally.”
