Canadian operator Wind Mobile has promoted Pietro Cordova, who has been its COO since July 2012, to CEO.
The managerial change follows Globalive Capital – owned by Wind’s co-founder and now former CEO Anthony Lacavera – taking full control of the telco after acquiring Vimpelcom’s shares last month.
Lacavera will remain as Wind’s chairman and will have an active role at the board level, working on the company’s planning and strategy, according to a company statement.
In September Globalive Capital, together with some investment funds, bought Vimpelcom’s combined direct and indirect holdings for C$135m (US$122.4m).
Commenting on his departure from the hot seat, Lacavera said: “As an entrepreneur, my vision was to ignite change across the wireless landscape in Canada, bringing more competition, better prices and superior service to Canadians, and that is exactly what we did.”
For his part, Cordova said: “It has been a pleasure working with Tony for the last two years and I look forward to continue working with him in his new capacity at Wind.”
“Wind 2.0 is on solid ground, and I look forward to providing my ongoing support and leadership to the organisation as we enter a very exciting phase in the life of Wind.”
Cordova originally joined Wind from Vimpelcom’s Italian operator, Wind Telecomunicazioni, where he held the position of deputy CFO.
Before joining Wind Telecomunicazioni in 2005, Cordova held a senior leadership role at Telecom Italia. He previously lived in Toronto for seven years during the nineties while working for financial institutions.
