Scott Gegenheimer has resigned as CEO from Kuwait telco Wataniya, a subsidiary of QTel, according to a company statement cited by Reuters.
Gegenheimer’s deputy, Abdulaziz Fakhroo, has been appointed on an interim basis until a long-term successor can be found.
Gegenheimer reportedly cited a desire to pursue other interests as the reason for his departure. He had been at the company for ten years and became CEO in 2008.
In its first quarter report Wataniya announced a profit of US$102.3m, down from US$1bn in the same period last year – a 90% drop. The Wataniya Group operates, under different brands, in Kuwait, Algeria, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Palestine and the Maldives.
