The CEO of Warid Telecom Uganda, which was recently acquired by the Essar Group, has decided to step down at the end of the month.
Quoted in local news reports, Zul Javaid says his decision is not linked to the group’s new ownership.
In November, the Abu Dhabi Group sold 51% of Warid Telecom’s operations in Uganda and Congo to Essar, which is actively looking to expand in the region.
Last week, the UAE fund agreed to sell a 70% stake in Warid Telecom Bangladesh to Bharti Airtel, while in 2007, it sold a 30% of Warid Telecom Pakistan to SingTel.
Standard Chartered advised the fund on the two most recent deals.
