Mobile and fixed-line operator Vodafone Qatar has appointed Sheikh Khalid bin Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani as chairman of its board.
He replaces Sheikh Abdulrahman Bin Saud Al-Thani who had held the position since June 2008.
The new recruit commented: “In its 4 years of operations, Vodafone Qatar has brought much needed competition to the market … I look forward to working with the company’s board members and executive management in continuing Vodafone’s success story in Qatar by taking it to new levels and delivering good financial returns for our shareholders.”
It is the second significant executive change at the Qatar-listed telco this year following the appointment of Kyle Whitehill as its new CEO. He joined from Vodafone’s Ghanaian unit and replaced Richard Daly, who left the company for family reasons.
The operator is 73% Qatari owned, which includes a 22% held by the Qatar Foundation. Vodafone Group has 23%, whilst the remaining 3.8% is owned by foreign individual and institutional shareholder.
