Johan Wibergh has stepped down from his role as head of segment networks at Ericsson to become CTO at Vodafone.
Wibergh will formally leave Ericsson at the end of April and join Vodafone in May to lead the group’s global technology strategy.
He will replace Steve Pusey who is retiring after eight years with the British operator.
As of today, the CEO of Ericsson, Hans Vestberg, has taken over Wibergh’s responsibilities, which covered the Swedish vendor’s cloud & IP and radio business units.
Vestberg said: “Under Johan’s leadership we have consolidated our market leadership in mobile networks and taken important steps to drive company transformation in IP, cloud and the evolution towards 5G. I am proud to see that he now takes on another senior position in the industry.”
Vodafone’s CEO, Vittorio Colao, said Wibergh’s background and skills were particularly relevant for his company as it transitions to become a “global data company”.
