Vodafone New Zealand, a mobile subsidiary of British telco Vodafone, is in discussions to acquire TelstraClear, a unit of Australia’s Telstra.
In separate statements, both TelstraClear and Vodafone confirmed ongoing talks but said that “there is no certainty as to whether an agreement will be reached”.
TelstraClear is advised by UBS on the deal, National Business Review reported.
Vodafone New Zealand is the country’s largest mobile operator. Telstra is a fixed-line and IT services provider as well as an MVNO, which used to operate on the Telecom New Zealand network and now on the Vodafone network.
Reports estimated that TelstraClear has a value of up to A$400m (US$394m).
