UK mobile operator Vodafone is reportedly considering separating its European operations into three divisions as the group ramps up its focus on the region.
The company is in early discussions about separating these operations into a Western Europe unit, a second subsidiary comprising Turkey, Central and Eastern Europe, and a third division to cover Africa and India, reported Bloomberg citing sources.
Vodafone declined to comment on the speculation.
The development follows the departure of Michel Combes, the company’s former head of European operations, who is stepping down in July to take the helm of French telco SFR.
Bloomberg suggested that, rather than replacing Combes, Vodafone could instead promote a number of internal candidates to head the newly created divisions. This would allow the mobile operator to increase its focus on Western Europe, its biggest market by sales, added the report.
It would be Vodafone’s third internal restructuring since current CEO Vittorio Colao took up his role four years ago.
