Mobile operator Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) has announced that Bill Morrow will replace Nigel Dews as CEO of the company.
Vodafone Australia did not disclose the reasons behind the departure, simply saying that Dews, who became CEO in 2009, will “take up a senior role within Hutchison Whampoa reporting to group managing director, Canning Fok.”
The shareholding of Vodafone Australia is equally split between British telco Vodafone and Hong Kong-based Hutchison Telecom.
Besides Morrow’s appointment, the company stated that Canning Fok will take over as chairman of Vodafone Australia. “The two shareholders announced today that, in line with their JV agreement and three years after the Vodafone Hutchison Australia merger, the role of VHA chairman will now rotate to the Hutchison Whampoa group managing director, Canning Fok.”
VHA has been struggling with financial difficulties, mainly linked to network quality problems, for several months.
A few days ago, it was reported that Vodafone and Hutchison were seeking for buyers for their JV. But Vodafone reaffirmed that it is “strongly committed to Australia”.
