Vodafone Australia CEO Bill Morrow is to leave the telco to take up the lead role at NBN Co, the company tasked with implementing Australia’s national broadband network.
Morrow will become CEO in the new year, as the company is looking to speed up the rollout process. He succeeds Ziggy Switkowski, who filled the interim CEO position in addition to his chairman role.
The new appointment follows a recent change of government in Australia.
Under the NBN plan, the former labour government had been aiming to expand high-speed broadband internet access to all Australians by 2021. But the liberal-national coalition, in power since September, has long criticised the cost of and delays in the project and pledged to address those issues.
Several other executive changes have been made since the coalition came to power, including the appointment of Greg Adcock as COO and JB Rousselot as head of strategy. They both joined from incumbent Telstra.
