Yolanda Cuba will assume the role of chief officer for strategy and business development at South Africa’s Vodacom from 1 November.
Currently an independent non-executive director at the company, Cuba will become a member of the Vodacom Group executive committee.
“As a result of this change, Yolanda’s status on the board reverts to that of a non-executive director with immediate effect. She will step down from the board with effect from 31 October 2014,” the company said in a statement.
Neil Gough has held the position of chief officer for strategy development since 2011 and details about his next steps are unknown.
A spokesperson for the company said there will be a handover period which will extend into next year, at which point there might be another announcement.
The telco was not immediately available for further comment on the subject.
Vodacom is a unit of the UK’s Vodafone and is South Africa’s largest mobile operator. It recently agreed to buy 100% of local fixed-line player Neotel for R7bn (US$676.7m).
