French media/telecoms group Vivendi has denied reports that it is planning to acquire Telefonica’s stake in Telco S.p.A, the investment vehicle that holds a 22.4% stake in Italian incumbent Telecom Italia.
Reuters reported that an article in Italian weekly publication Il Mondo had said that Vivendi had been working for more than a year on a plan to acquire Telefonica’s stake in Telco S.p.A.
A Vivendi spokeswoman denied the report and would not give any further comment.
Telefonica holds a 46.2% stake in Telco S.p.A. According to Telecom Italia’s 2010 results, the other shareholders in Telco S.p.A are Generali Group (30.58%), Mediobanca (11.62%) and Intesa San Paolo (11.62%).
A spokeswoman for Mediobanca also denied the report.
