Telekom Austria’s Croatian Vipnet subsidiary has been awarded spectrum licences in the 800MHz band for Hrk150m (€20m).
The company acquired a 10 MHz paired frequency block, totalling 20 MHz, of 800MHz spectrum that is part of the country’s digital dividend.
While a total of three frequency blocks were offered, only Vipnet and T-Hrvatski Telekom participated in the process.
As a condition of the purchase Vipnet is required to provide 4G coverage across at least 50% of the Croatia within five years.
The licence expires in 2024.
TA bought the frequency licenses from Croatian regulatory authority Hakom through a public call tender that took place between mid-September and mid-October.
“With these frequency blocks Vipnet will be able to offer broadband services based on the fourth generation mobile technology (LTE), meeting ever-rising customer demands in terms of speed and volume,” said Hannes Ametsreiter, CEO of Telekom Austria Group, in a statement.
