Telekom Austria’s Croatian subsidiary Vipnet has agreed to acquire three regional cable network operators in line with the group’s convergence strategy.
Vipnet announced today that it has acquired Oki, giving it access to an extra 27,000 households in and around Zagreb and along the Dalmation Coast, and is finalising purchase agreements with Kabelska Televisija Sibenik (KTS) and Metronet’s residential customer division.
The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchasing prices.
Vipnet CEO Mladen Pejkovic said the acquisitions complement the company’s existing footprint in the fixed-net sector.
“With these new company acquisitions, we consolidate our role as a leading fixed-net infrastructure operator and enable further convergent solutions.”
Vipnet said the direct access the deals afford to new customers present considerable cross and up-selling opportunities for mobile products and bundled packages. They also provide an opportunity to acquire new customers within the area covered by the fixed net network, the company said.
A spokesperson for Telekom Austria said the acquired companies use coax infrastructure and will be migrated to its existing platform.
Vienna-based Telekom Austria announced its acquisition of Croatia’s largest cable network provider Bnet in June 2011 which it says laid the foundations for its convergence strategy. The company noted that it mostly chooses acquisition targets which enable it to expand its operational footprint quickly.
Listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange, Telekom Austria operates in eight Central and Eastern European countries: Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Belarus and Liechtenstein.
