Russian operator VimpelCom has appointed Sberbank to lead a rouble bond issue worth US$2.5bn.
A spokesperson at the operator said that the transaction aimed to replace expensive foreign debt with more affordable rouble debt, but was not related to the acquisition of Wind Telecom.
He declined to give details on the timetable, however.
