Leading operator Viettel, controlled by the Vietnamese Ministry of Defence, has agreed to acquire struggling rival EVN Telecom, which is owned by Electricity of Vietnam, TelecomFinance has confirmed.
Although some local reports suggest that the deal is expected to complete in March, the information could not be verified with the concerned companies.
This first consolidation deal has long been awaited in the Vietnamese mobile market, which is currently overcrowded with seven mobile operators for 87 million customers.
