German alternative telco Versatel is reportedly considering the sale of its retail cable business.
According to Dow Jones, Versatel is ‘evaluating whether to spin off the retail cable business in an attempt to focus more on its wholesale business’.
Were the asset to be put on the block there would be no shortage of interest from other German cable operators that are looking to consolidate their positions in a fragmented market. KDG, Unitymedia and Kabel BW have all said that they are on the lookout for additional regional operations in the country and could see Versatel’s 160,000 cable connections as a useful purchase.
Kabel BW is already hopeful of buying certain assets from Tele Columbus.
