Telekom Austria’s Belarusian mobile unit Velcom has been awarded a UMTS licence for E9.5m
The licence, which covers the entire Belarusian territory, will be valid until 24 August 2017.
In December, TelecomFinance reported that a working committee for the Belarusian State Commission for Radio Frequencies (SCRF) approved the government’s plan to award UMTS licences and that the same committed had reportedly decided to award 3G frequencies to Turkcell’s Life last summer.
According to reports, MTS had 4.52 million subscribers at the end of September 2009, while Velcom had 4 million users and Life 800,000.
