Taiwan-based WiMax operator Vee Time is to acquire a 72.43% stake in rival operator Vmax Telecom for NT$391m (US$13.2m), according to local reports.
The stake was reportedly bought from Taiwan’s Tecom, a telecom equipment manufacturer, and from mobile operator Vibo Telecom.
Vee Time was quoted saying that it is currently in negotiations with other Vmax shareholders to buy the remaining 27.57% in the company.
If completed, this transaction would mark the first consolidation deal in Taiwan, which is currently home to ten mobile network operators for 23 million inhabitants.
