Taiwan-based WiMax operator Vee Time is set to acquire local rival Vmax Telecom, according to Taiwanese website CENS.
The report explains that, with the help of the government, Vee Time will initially buy a 58% stake from Vmax’s main shareholders, investment company Intel Capital and cellco Vibo Telecom.
Once the merger is completed, the new entity may consider buying another such operator, Vee Time chairman Richard Lai was quoted saying.
Taiwan is currently populated with six WiMax operators, resulting in a saturated market, analysts reportedly said.
The companies could not be reached for comment before the press deadline.
