US Cellular is interested in acquiring 700MHz A and B block licences from Verizon, according to a filing with the FCC.
The company did not reveal how much it was prepared to bid for the licences.
The divestiture by Verizon could have a positive impact on the band 12 ecosystem, the company said. It also expressed support for AT&T buying licences, providing that AT&T committed to building a band class 12 network.
US Cellular emphasised that while it viewed a sale of Verizon’s spectrum as positive, it did not override the need for the FCC to issue interoperability rules. New requirements would oblige carriers to offer handsets that support various 700 MHz bands, not only the bands they hold licences for.
Verizon announced the sale of spectrum in April, which is contingent on the completion of its planned acquisitions of Advanced Wireless Spectrum (AWS) in three separate deals that are currently under review.
