Applications to take part in the auction for Ukrtelecom’s mobile business are due by 8 October, according to local press reports quoted by Telegeography.
Earlier this year, the telecoms operator transferred its mobile assets in a new separate entity called TriMob.
Ukrtelecom’s mobile unit, which trades under the Utel brand, was the only operator to receive a 3G licence in 2005 and since then rival mobile providers Astelit, MTS Ukraine and Kyivstar have sought to acquire 3G licences, but without success.
Utel started offering 3G services in 2007.
The privatisation of Ukrtelecom was finalised on May 11, with EPIC Services Ukraine buying a 92.79% stake for Hr10.575 (US$1.3bn).
Utel reportedly has 700,000 subscribers.
Ukrtelekom was not available for comment before press time.
