Earlier this month, Ukrainian billionaire Rinat Akhmetov’s Systems Capital Management (SCM) Group agreed to acquire a 92.79% stake in Ukrtelecom from Austria-based investment firm Epic for an estimated US$1bn to US$1.3bn.
Akhmetov is said to be an ally of Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovich.
