The Ukrainian Anti-Monopoly Committee has confirmed the approval of the merger between Russia’s VimpelCom and Ukraine’s Kyivstar into a new entity, VimpelCom Ltd.
Last April, the regulator reversed its decision made a month earlier to approve the merger.
Over 97% of VimpelCom’s shareholders took part in the exchange offer that was launched in February 9 and the squeeze-out process of the transaction was completed in August.
The creation of VimpelCom Ltd put an end to years of dispute between Norway’s Telenor and Russia’s Alfa Group, which were the two main shareholders of VimpelCom and Kyivstar. VimpelCom Ltd is now in talks for a merger with Naguib Sawiris’ Weather Investments.
