Ukrainian telecoms regulator NCCIR has invited bids for the country’s long-awaited 3G spectrum auction, saying it will commence on 16 February.
An advertisement to prospective bidders will appear in the country’s Official Gazette together with the final terms of the auction, which have been approved by the government, and related documents, the regulator said in a statement following a recent meeting.
Three 15-year licences will be available for 2×15 MHz of spectrum in the 1,920-1,935, 2,110-2,125, 1,950-1,965, 2,140-2,155, 1,965-1,980 and 2,155-2,170 MHz bands.
The minimum price of each licence is Hr2.7bn (US$172.9m), local publication ProIT reported. In addition, licence holders will have to split the cost of converting the frequencies from military usage, which is estimated at Hr1.6bn (US$102.5m).
Ukraine’s three mobile network operators are VimpelCom-owned Kyivstar, MTS Ukraine and Turkey’s Life. All three operators are analysing the terms of the tender to determine whether or not to take part, local media reported.
The operators were not immediately available for comment.
