Tigo started operations in January 2003 as a joint venture between Bogota-based fixed line operator ETB and Medellin-based public services and telecoms group EPM.
In September 2006, Luxembourg-based mobile network operator Millicom acquired a 50% plus one share controlling stake in the company.
BNAmericas speculates that Uff Movil is a spin-off from Tigo.
