Malaysia’s fourth-largest mobile operator, U Mobile, has sacked its CEO Jaffa Sany Bin Md Ariffin in a “disciplinary action”, it said on its website without elaborating.
Ariffin, who had been appointed in June 2012, is therefore “not authorised to act for and on behalf of the company in respect of any matter with immediate effect”, U-Mobile said.
Wong Heang Tuck, the company’s current COO, will act as CEO until further notice.
U Mobile is 49%-owned by Straits Mobile Investments, a unit of ST Telemedia, with the remaining shares held by U Telemedia (37%), Magnum (6.3%), Glorious Reflection (5.3%) and Malaysian businessman Vincent Tan (2.4%).
Late last year, U Mobile was awarded a 4G licence along with seven other local telcos.
