Turkish mobile operator Turkcell plans to acquire local data centre firm Global Iletisim from its Yildiz Holding group in a deal worth around TRY17.5m (US$9.9m).
The final purchase price will be determined based on Global Iletisim’s balance sheet at the point of closing the deal, according to Turkcell, which is awaiting regulatory approval for the transaction.
Upon completion, Global Iletisim will be incorporated within Turkcell ISP subsidiary Superonline.
“Turkcell Superonline aims to improve its cloud computing capability and data centre services through the acquisition of the shares of Global Iletisim, owning three world class data centers,” stated Turkcell in an Istanbul stock exchange announcement.
The move follows Turkcell rival Vodafone Turkey’s acquisition of alternative fixed line provider Koc.net late last month for TRY30m (US$18m), and represents a trend of wireless operators in the country moving towards becoming full-service telecoms providers.
