The Tunisian government has set up a national holding company to manage the state’s assets, among which are stakes in mobile operators Tunisiana and Orange, Tunisia Live reports.
La Caisse des Dépôts et Consignation (CDC) will manage 25% of Qtel-controlled Tunisiana and 51% of Orange, which have been confiscated from the family of former dictator Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali.
CDC’s managing committee is reportedly chaired by Tunisian minister of finance Jalloul Ayed.
CDC reportedly manages an estimated TDN3.4bn (US$2.3bn) of resources and investments will be made to improve infrastructure and encourage the creation of small and medium-sized businesses.
