Thai communications conglomerate True Corp has named Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) to advise it on the country’s upcoming 3G licence auction, according to local newspaper The Nation. True Corp has also said that to help fund the licence, it will seek a strategic partner for its mobile subsidiary, True Move.
As financial adviser on True’s bid to win spectrum in the 2100MHz band, SCB – together with other as yet unnamed banks – will be working with True to improve its financial position.
According to TeleGeography, the group is to dedicate THB25bn-30bn (US$772m-926m) towards 3G network development over the next two years. This figure does not, however, include the minimum price (THB12.8bn) it would have to pay for a licence.
