Thai state-owned telco TOT has reportedly halved its list of potential joint venture partners to just three local players: Advanced Info Service (AIS), Loxley and Mobile LTE.
Telcos True Corp, Total Access Communication (Dtac) and Samart were also in the running but did not make the shortlist, reported the Bangkok Post citing a source.
Operators in the country are under pressure from falling voice revenues and a decision to delay a 4G auction by a year. TOT has said it is open to any kind of partnership to invigorate its business.
The group had also looked internationally for JV possibilities.
According to the Bangkok Post, TOT is considering renting out unused spectrum to its private partners, eyeing at least Bt4-5bn (US$123m-153m) in extra revenue a month from the move.
AIS has also offered to jointly manage the group’s tower portfolio, according to the report.
