Tong Jilu has retired as executive director and an SVP of China Unicom to become general manager of the telco’s recently-created tower joint venture.
Called China Communications Facilities Services, the JV was set up last month in partnership with wireless rivals China Mobile and China Telecom to cut infrastructure costs.
Tong, a former CFO at Unicom, is being replaced by the telco’s SVP Zhang Junan, who is also a non-executive director at the tower JV.
Unicom owns 30.1% of China Communications Facilities Services, while its larger rival China Mobile holds a 40% stake. Number three player China Telecom has the remaining 29.9%.
