Millicom subsidiary Tigo Bolivia has bought local cable TV operator Multivision for US$20m.
The deal adds paid television, and in particular exclusive domestic football rights, to Tigo’s current 2G and 3G mobile offering in Bolivia.
In its Q3 results release, Millicom said it hoped to wrap up regulatory approval and close the deal by the end of the year.
The company added that the transaction gives it a cable footprint across all eight Latin American markets it operates in.
Multivision has been offering subscription TV for 20 years and operates in four major Bolivian cities: Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, Tarija and the capital, La Paz.
