Telecom Italia is to make a further 4522 staff redundant by the end of 2012, the company said in a statement.
This total is in addition to the 2300 redundancies that had already been scheduled to take place between 2009 and 2011 as a consequence of a wide reaching cost cutting programme.
The operator said that it had been through the plan with the relevant trade unions.
