MSS operator Thuraya has stated that it would focus on non-government organisations (NGOs) and disaster management agencies as its core business area.
The company made its announcement following its recent participation at the Aid and International Development Forum (AIDF) in Washington DC on 22-23 July. It pointed to the fact that most of the NGOs operating around the world today are in Asia, Africa and the Middle East, areas that are not appropriately served by terrestrial telecom networks and that are part of Thuraya’s core coverage.
Thuraya’s vice president corporate communications, Ebrahim K Ebrahim, said: “The NGO and disaster management sector is growing as a market segment and has very specialised telecom needs. At Thuraya, we are building our knowledge and expertise with this sector for many years now, culminating in establishing a dedicated business team to efficiently address their needs and demands.”
