Canadian incumbent Telus is switching CFOs with Bob McFarlane stepping down at the end of the year to be replaced by John Gossling.
Gossling starts in the role today and will work with McFarlane until the end of 2012 in a transition phase.
Speaking on an investor call CEO Darren Entwistle said the wireless operator had carried out an extensive search to find a suitable successor and described Gossling as “highly capable”.
Gossling was previously CFO at Canadian publisher and broadcaster CTVglobemedia before it was acquired by BCE in 2011. In the past he held the role of CFO at Rogers Wireless Communications.
McFarlane decided to retire for personal reasons.
According to the Financial Post tensions had developed between McFarlane and certain shareholders during Telus’ protracted battle with hedge fund Mason Capital to change its share structure.
The Canadian publication quoted McFarlane as saying he did not want to leave until the collapse of the dual-class share structure, passed by shareholders in October.
Telus’ battle with Mason now appears destined for the courts.
