Mexican telco Telmex is set to seek more synergies with its owner, America Movil, in the coming year, according to media reports.
BN Americas reported yesterday that Adolfo Cerezo, Telmex’s CFO, had said that there will be some synergies related to the optimisation of the use of telecoms platforms.
Cerezo was speaking in a conference call with investors. He reportedly also said that Telmex and America Movil could not currently operate under the same brand name, as this was not allowed by the regulator.
America Movil, which is owned by the telecoms magnate Carlos Slim, acquired a controlling stake in Telmex in 2010.
Separately, Telmex published disappointing Q4 2010 results on Friday. They revealed that Telmex’s net profit for the fourth quarter was Ps3.4bn (US$282.7m), more than 32% lower than for the equivalent period in 2009.
Telmex did not reply to questions before the press deadline.
