The head of the Mexican competition authority has suggested that it would be desirable for fixed-line operator Telmex to be allowed to offer pay-TV services in the shortest time possible.
In an interview with local newspaper El Economista, Eduardo Perez Motta, chairman of the Federal Competition Commission (CFC) said that the entry of Telmex into the pay-TV market could give access to four million consumers.
In the same interview, Motta said that he expected interconnection charges in Mexico to come down to the average levels for OECD countries. This would entail a fall of 18.3% in fixed-line charges and 9.4% in mobile charges.
His words follow the dispute that erupted last week between the mobile operator Telcel and several other operators over interconnection charges.
