Fixed-line operator Telkom South Africa has launched its mobile phone unit, 8ta, according to media reports.
The company is reportedly aiming for 10% to 15% of South Africa’s mobile phone market share within five years with 8ta, the fourth mobile network in the country.
Telkom SA is spending R6bn (US$874m) on building the network, which it hopes will help offset the fixed-line business’s declining revenues, the reports stated.
Other mobile operators in the country include MTN, Vodacom Group and Cell C.
